La Poste Failed Delivery

French Failed Delivery Form Explained.
AVIS DE PASSAGE (Calling Card)

Understanding French documents can be a daunting task even for those of us who are trying hard to improve our french language skills.

This was highlighted to me the other day when I was waiting for delivery of an part I had ordered.

The only company that had it was Spares2you back in the UK. and although the tracking was excellent I had to use my la Poste login and pay the due customs taxes and VAT. I eagerly awaited my part.

I could follow it on La poste with excellent steps as below. If you have not registered with La Post website it is very easy here is the link.

Although the tracking was excellent we had a lot to do in France like other people who had been prevented from travelling as much because of Covid we had to go out to the Shops and stock up, get and arrange wood for our wood burning stoves and take our garden waste to the Déchèterie.

With all of that we missed the delivery of our part and the postman or woman dropped a “Avis De Passage” in our postbox. I suddenly realised that I did not have a clue what it was advising me of…So I decided to make a translation of the form for those of you who may be in the same position.

The original Avis de Passage

Of Course I have edited out my details and put in a dummy barcode, this is what you may get from your postman /woman if they are unable to deliver your letter or Parcel that needs a signature or proof of delivery.

You may also see that at the bottom you may see a Euro amount…This would be if you had any import or other taxes to pay on the item.

I paid mine online with the La Poste website.

Here is a Translated version I created to help others.

The Green “Sticker” is put there by the local postman or woman and it will give you the address at what post office (La Poste) your item will be left at if the “Failed to deliver” on the second attempt the following day.

I hope this helps
